On 11th June, on a hot and humid evening, the Hong Kong’s shipping community was all a buzz. But this was not for the start of the Football World Cup but instead for the third annual Pacific Basin Soccer Sixes, held at the Football Club.
The 160 players that took part came from companies such as NEPA, DLA Piper, Rodskog, Anglo Eastern, HUD and Ince & Co, but those familiar with the tournament from previous years also saw new entrants including law firm Smythe & Co, agent WSS, HUD Group and ship owner Wah Kwong. The turnout this year exceeded that of previous years attracting in excess of 150 spectators.
In a tense final, Pacific Basin’s "PB Dragons" were for the first time, crowned champions at the Pacific Basin Soccer Sixes tournament.
PB defeated Rodskog Shipbrokers 2-1 in a thrilling Cup final, while Smyth & Co in association with RPC beat DLA Piper (last year's Plate winners) in a tense penalty shootout in the Plate final. Smyth & Co went first scoring a goal, only for DLA's attempt to be saved by their goal keeper.
Congratulation to all the winners and thank you to all participants and the many enthusiastic supporters for contributing to the success and good spirit of the event. See you again on the pitch next year!
